I have a Giveaway!

I have a give away for My Memories Suite digital scrapbooking software. I had a the opportunity to play with this great software. I have spent about a week making pages. The more I explore the more I like it. This digital scarpbooking software doesn't only do pages. It does cards, photo books, calenders and movies. You can also make albums to share on your iPods/iPod Touch. This is really cool. Also when you make DVDs you can make them interactive. So you can hide little thing with in the DVD. How cool is that! The best thing is you can download different page layouts, ribbons and things to embellish the pages with. No more closets full of scrap booking stuff. Everything is point and click and VERY user friendly. Not only can you buy pages but they also have a section for free downloads that changes frequently. I kept changing my layouts and could not decide what photos to use. Here is what I did.

Are you as excited as I am to try out this software? Well there are a few chances to win you own copy of the software.

1.) Check out My Memories Suite and let me know what you like most about it
2.) Be a follower of my little blog here.
3.) Like My Memories on Facebook

If you would like to purchase this great software I will give you your very own coupon code that provides a $10 discount on the purchase of the My Memories Suite v2 scrapbook software from this site. (Software also comes with a $10 coupon for downloads-a total value of $20!)
The code for my followers is STMMMS60298

CLICK for Babies

Hi Everyone!
Are you going to Click for babies? Do you Knit or Crochet? Are you wondering what the heck Click for babies is? Click for babies is a program where knitters and Crochet folks get together and make purple hats for newborn babies. Their goal is for every newborn baby in the month of  November will get a purple baby hat. This is to help bring awareness to the period of purple crying.

A great website for more info is CLICK FOR BABIES   and for BC and Canada we also have this site BC and Canada

I think this a great cause. If you live in Victoria BC. I am hosting a Click with me session at the Cloth Castle. This event will be October 2 from 12 to 3pm. We will get together and work on our purple hats. If you can't make it but still want to help buy some purple yarn, we will make sure some hats get knit or crocheted up. If you need to buy your yarn all the Purple yarn at the Cloth Castle is 15% off for the purple hats. If you need help with some patterns the two websites above have some free patterns. They are quick and easy. This is a great way to help and all we need to do is something we already love to do. That is be creative. If you are able to come to our little Click for the babies event let me know and we can hold your seat. It will be lots of fun and a great afternoon.

Here are some other blogs that are Clicking for the babies

Am I in over my head?

Hi Everyone!
Hope you are all doing well. It was a great weekend for me. On Saturday we did Quilt till you Wilt at the Cloth Castle. This is a once a month get together where you work on your UFO's. It was are first time back since June. We were all so happy to see each other that I was so busy talking that I got nothing done. It was great to catch up with everyone.

Sunday My sister Natasha and I went back to the shop and did some quilting. It was fun to get some work done since I did nothing the night before. When I got home I was reading all the blogs I follow. There are a lot. I see so many blog that are doing quilt alongs. I wonder hmm would I like something like that? Then I think that is a lot of pressure what if you don't get it done. Makes my heart race a little bit. Then i keep reading some blogs and come across a Christmas Quilt Along. It made my breath stop my heart race and sent my mind whirring. When I see something I like this often happens. Then i start something like a Dear Jane and think oh my what have I done. Well this little Christmas Quilt Along was the cutest thing I have seen.
Is not the cutest Christmas banner! I saw it and knew I had to make it. This Christmas Quilt Along is  being Hosted by Sew Happy. I checked out the blog and you should to. Figured out how this Quilt Along works and signed up. As soon as I hit send I thought Miriam what have you gotten yourself into? Then I look at the picture again and I fall in love all over again. I will keep you all posted on my progress. The first block is getting relesed this Friday. I will just add this to my many projects.
How about you? Will you be doing any Sew Alongs/Quilt Alongs?

From Pumpkin to Fabric

Hi Everyone! I can't believe September is here already. I am a little excited about this. My favorite holiday is just around the corner. Halloween is just around the corner which means pumpkin carving is just around the corner. I love the smell of pumpkins in the morning. When I bought my new sewing machine, I did pick a machine that can do embroidery. I have been fascinated by what you can do with the software. Who knew sewing and quilting would become so full of tech gadgets. I love them! I am still on a learning curve with the technology of quilting/sewing. Thankfully my sister has all the gadgets and top of the line software. It is also handy that Natasha and our good friend Cindy teach software classes. This bring me to my next little adventure. I ask Natasha is there a way to scan a photo and have it stitch out? She is like yes with the software. Immediately my mind starting whirring and tons of ideas in my brain.

I thought about what I would like to try first. I went to one of my favorite pumpkin carving patterns. Edward Siccorhands. I love Tim Burton movies so i though why not. Here is a photo of Edward carved into a pumpkin.

With help from Natasha and some time on the computer. I uploaded the pattern and was able to convert the pattern into stitches. It took a few hours to stitch out. I love how it turned out. Here is Edward on fabric ready to be made into a messenger bag.
I can't wait to have it turned into a bag!

Mug Mat Fundraising * sold out*

Hi Everyone. I have no idea where the summer has gone. I can't believe that September is just a day away. September at my job means it's conference time. For those that don't know me I work for Flight Centre. I love my job as a travel agent and I love working for a company that gives back. In September our Managers and Assistant Managers go on conference. It is usually to a very nice location. I went last year and we got to go to Jamaica. Yup it is a hard job when you HAVE to go to Jamaica for work. While in Jamaica we stayed at Sandals Whitehouse. Yup really hard job :) What I love about Sandals is they give back to the communities that they are in. They have a charity called the Sandals Foundation. While we are at conference we have one day of volunteer work. This is my favorite day. Here is a link about the 700 Flight Centre employees face lift on a town. Flight Centre at Beeston Springs
I was part of the team that helped build a soccer field and store for the kids. We hauled trash, cut grass with machetes and hauled cement. My favorite part is we had a few locals and as we were passing the buckets of cement we sang Bob Marley's One Love. Now when ever i here this song It bring me back to that day in Jamaica in the pouring rain passing cement down a line of 50 people. We also met the village elder. She came and shook all out hands. She had tears running down her face as she could not believe we were all spending our time to help build this little village. It was an amazing day. Here is a picture of my good friend Ashley and myself. I was not lying when I say it was pouring rain.
Before we went to Jamaica we did fundraising for The Sandals Foundation. The coolest part is for every dollar we raised Flight Centre matched it. What a great place to work!! When I was in Jamaica Flight Centre present the Sandals Foundation with a check for $50 000. It was amazing. This year i am not going to Jamaica but I believe in The Sandals Foundation and what they do. So I am helping my shop fundraise. I am trying to be creative with my fundraising. I did my bosses receipts. He felt it was money well paid, little does he know I love paper work. :) I know I'm not sure why I love paper work either. I have also made Mug Mats. I thought these would sell like crazy to Flighties. (Flighties are what we call people who work at Flight Centre.) They didn't bite. I was sad as I worked really hard. My sister Natasha gave my some scarps to make the Mats with but i guess it is hard to sell to non quilters. I am selling these Mats for $10. All the money goes to The Sandals Foundation. If you are interested let me know. We can do Credit card If you live in Victoria you can of course pay cash. If it needs to be shipped we will pay for the shipping with Canada and the United States So if you want to help those less fortunate but also have a nice desk decoration then let me know it is a Win/Win situation. Also to the Sandals Fundation your $10 will be worth $20 because Flight Centre matches what we make.

Here are the Mug Mats

Just let me know which one would like to move to your house or office.

Quilts off the Avenue !

Hi Everyone!
The last few weeks I have been busy getting my quilts done for the annual Cloth Castle's Quilt Challenge. This year the challenge was crazy patch. This something I look forward to every year. I had two quilts in the show. I fell in love with Sashiko and I did a hand done Sashiko Dragon wall hanging.
Here is a photo.
I tied for first in the wall hanging category.
I also had a large quilt in the show. For those who read my blog have seen my large quilt as I have been working on it. Here is a photo of it done.
Here is my crazy about DR Seuss Quilt. It placed second in the large quilts.

Wait until you see the quilt that came in first! It was stunning. Louisa who made the winning quilt spent 3 months and 8 hours a day working on it. She used threads by Ricky Timms. She did such a great job that when she email Ricky Timms he emailed her back to let her know what an amazing job she had done. Her quilt is going to to be in his magazine The Quilt life in October or November. Here is some photos of it. Like I said it was STUNNING!

Here is my sister wall hanging. Done with wool. Her wall hanging came in second for the wall hangings

Ok Hope you are all having a great day.

Just finished my first baby quilt.

Hi Everyone!
I hope you are all well. This summer is just flying by. It seems like yesterday it was Christmas. I have been really busy getting some projects done. I had a co-worker who was having a baby. It was due on August 13. The little guy showed up two weeks early. I thankfully I  had his welcome to the world gift ready. This is the first time that I have made a baby quilt for someone. I am always nervous giving quilts away. You can all probably understand. I always worry what if they don't take care of it. I will be upset if it becomes the dog blanket. Thankfully Rebecca does not have a dog. When Rebecca told me she was pregnant I was really excited. Then the brain started thinking and I knew she needed a quilt for her second child. I love Dr Seuss fabric and Rebecca knows how much I love it as well. So then I knew I had to make a Dr Seuss quilt for there new little boy.

So Welcome to the world Stephen Dexter Frost!

Whole Cloth Quilt.

Hi Everyone!

Hope everyone had a great weekend. I sure did! On Saturday my Sister Natasha taught a class at the Cloth Castle. It was called the Whole Cloth Quilt. It is a class where you get to know your embroidery machine, learn some new techniques and have a quilt that is complete. The cool thing about this class was before we did the machine quilting we had the quilt layered, basted and binding done! I few months ago I bought my first sewing machine. I bought the Husqvarna Topaz 30. I love this machine but had not done much with the embroidery part of the machine. In this class we learn tons!  For the machine quilting designs we used Husqvarna's Quilting Tiles program. You get 20 designs and they are beautiful. When they stitch out it is done with a triple stitch looks great. Until you have to unpick one! The most surprising thing about this quilt is normally I am NOT a girl who likes pink. I do however love the pink in this quilt.

This my Hearse fabric.

Went Quilting and did a " Hole In One"

Hi Everyone! Hope you all are having a great weekend. Today I took a class with my sister Natasha and a close friend of ours Cindy. We took a stackNwack class at the Cloth Castle. This class was taught by Bettye Shepherd.Bettye is a guess teacher at the Cloth Castle from Arizona. She has been quilting for 58 years. She has also won several awards in the quilting world. It was a great privilege to take a class from her. It was also the first time I took a class with my sister where she was not the teacher.

Here is the sample quilt that Bettye made, that had us all sign up.

All those blocks are from the same piece of fabric. We all picked a fabric with a repeat in it. You line them up and stack and then cut them all up. There is more to it but I don't want to give to many secrets out. The Cloth Castle will be carrying Bettye's Pattern called Hole n One.

I bet you want to see what fabrics we chose.
This is my piece of fabric before we cut it up.
Natasha and Cindy both picked the same fabric. This Rogue marches to her own drum ;)

All my whacked stacks. Ready to be put back together.
TADA!!!!

Here is a sneak peek at Natasha and Cindy's Blocks. Be sure to jump over to Natasha's blog to see hers!

Those Darn Socks

Hi Everyone! Hope the start of July is treating everyone well.I took a little break from quilting to help make a store sample for The Cloth Castle. I have been working on knitting some socks for the shop. I did socks from the toe up. I used the magic cast on method so there is no seem at the toes. I also used a heavier weight yarn for them. These socks are usually done 2 at a time on circular needles. I only did one as with the thicker yarn I was not sure how it was going to work. Here is the first done sock. One more to go.

Other colors from Smiley Stripes

Crazy About Dr Seuss

Hi Everyone!

It has been a while since my last blog. I have been working on some projects. Most of you know that my sister Natasha went to Spring Market in Salt Lake City. She came with tons of stuff! Check her blog out here http://joyofquilting-natasha.blogspot.com/

Before Natasha went to Salt Lake City she taught me how to make her newest pattern. It was a crazy patch. This summer the Cloth Castle is doing a Quilt Challenge. This summer the block is the Crazy Patch. I thought about it and came up with a few ideas for a quilt. While Natasha was in Salt Lake City I had a few projects to work on and hopefully keep me out of trouble. I did one crazy patch quilt and I still had a week and half with out my sister. What was I going to do? I did some thinking and thought hmmm. I have lots of Dr Seuss fabric. A Crazy Patch would be a great way to show off the amazing colors of this fabric line. I have to be honest, I did not want to cut the fabric up. I even put a post on my Facebook. A friend replied "I know you are going to sew it back together" I replied of course i am going to sew the pieces back together its called quilting!

The Finished Top

Myself and fellow Rogue Quilter Cindy
Growing up I always enjoyed Dr Seuss. I have been on love with these fabrics since they day arrived at the Cloth Castle. I can't wait to finish the quilting on it.

I do have a few more thing on the go. Including a Rogue Quilter project with Cindy. We are working on something together and I am really excited to do it with her. I also have some beading projects on the go I will do a post later on in the week.

May your rotary cutters always stay sharp and covered when not in use!

I do I do I do (well not me anyway)

Hello Everyone! It has been a while since my last blog. Since My last blog I have gone and went from Las Vegas. What a great place to visit. We had such a great time. When I got back from Las Vegas I had to get ready for a co-workers wedding. When I say I had to get ready it is not because I was in the wedding party or anything. I had arranged for all our co-workers to chip in and I made her and her new husband a quilt. They day after the wedding they were already going on their Honeymoon. I was really excited to give my co-worker Laura her quilt. Some of the fun of giving someone something is to see there reactions. With her leaving how can I ask her to call before she goes to Jamaica. I really needed to know if she liked her quilt or not. The day of her wedding Laura was making her rounds to all the guests. The sweetest word came out of her mouth "would you like to come to the gift opening" It was like she read my mind. OF COURSE! I want to go the gift opening. This is the first quilt I made that I am actually giving away. The next day I went to Laura's mom house and joined the gift opening.

Laura reading the card signed by all of us.
I was on pins and needles. My sister Natasha helped picked the colors and we did not really know her color scheme for her house so we were taking a chance.

Laura picking out form her quilt.

With much relief she loved the quilt! The first words from her husbands mouth."How did you know the colors of our bedroom?" I didn't we took a guess and we came out on top.

To Laura and Adam:
I wish you many years of happiness together and thank you for letting me be a part of your special day!
Now you need to have some little kids so I can make some baby quilts.
Love Miriam

Have Quilt, will travel

Hi Everyone! Hope you are all having a wonderful Wednesday. Today I am getting ready to take a quick trip.My sister Nastasha, Mom and Myself and some of our friends are going to Las Vegas for our Mom's 60th Birthday. We fly out from Victoria tomorrow afternoon. I love to travel so I guess it helps that I am a travel agent. Like a quilter that works in a fabric shop. Several years ago whenever we travelled my sister always brought a quilt along. I would think why would you pack that with you? Then I started to get into quilting and now I understand why she packs a quilt with her. It is a little bit of home while you are not at home. I made my self a flannel quilt and now i take it everywhere. I did a work trip to Jamaica in September and all my co-workers shook there heads when in the airport on a lay over I whipped out my quilt. Next thing i know there was 6 of us cuddled under that quilt for a few hours. Here is a picture of my travel quilt.
This quilt has been with me all over. Her first trip was to Disneyland. Then it came with me all over Italy, stayed in the Disneyland DreamSuite,Jamaica and now Las Vegas.
Along with my quilt I have one more thing that comes with me while travelling. Its my lucky travel hat! I love hats and while travelling i hate having to do my hair so I have this one hat I wear. It was funny while in Italy with my Mom she wanted some pictures with out my hat. So i did not wear it. The tour director thought they left me behind because he always looked for My hat.
In the Disneyland Dreamsuite.
